Samsung just announced its latest foldable devices at Galaxy Unpacked: the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Each makes modest improvements over last year's Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. But the announcement isn't just about the latest generation of foldable Galaxy devices. In addition, Samsung also revealed the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
The star of the show is the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which may resemble last year's Fold 6, but has undergone several improvements. To start, Samsung made the Fold 7 even thinner: The foldable is now just 8.9mm thick when folded—compared to 12.1mm on the Fold 6—and 4.2mm thick when unfolded. The phone is significantly lighter at just 7.62 ounces (216g), when compared to both the heavier Fold 6, which is 8.43 ounces (239g) and the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is 7.69 ounces (218g).
Samsung also made the Fold 7's screens larger. The main folding screen is eight inches, versus the Fold 6's 7.6-inch screen. The cover screen on the Fold 7 is slightly wider at 6.5 inches and has a 21:9 aspect ratio that is similar to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. And just like the Fold 6, the Fold 7 is resistant to spills and splashes, thanks to its IP48 water and dust resistance.
Powering the Z Fold 7 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip with 12GB of RAM. The chip should provide plenty of power for both productivity and gaming. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The battery in the Fold 7 stays at 4,400 mAh, but supports 25W Super Fast Wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
Looking to the cameras, the Fold 7 has a 200MP primary wide lens (up from 50MP on the Fold 6), 12MP Ultra Wide and 10MP telephoto. The front-facing cameras on the cover screen and main folding screen are both 10MP and are no longer under the display. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will launch in a few colors: Jetblack, Blue Shado and Silver Shadow.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 start today, and the phone will ship on July 25th.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7
For the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the changes are subtle. The most significant development is that the front Flex Window is slightly larger at 4.1 inches, as compared to 3.4 inches on the Flip 6. Meanwhile, the main folding screen is slightly bigger at 6.9 inches, versus the 6.7-inch screen on the Flip 6.
Powering the Flip 7 is the Samsung Exynos 2500 chip with 12GB of RAM. Unlike the Fold 7, the Flip 7 gets a battery bump, shipping with a 4,300 mAh battery. (That's a modest increase from the Flip 6's 4,000 mAh battery.) Just like the Fold 7, the Flip 7 has IP48 water and dust resistance.
The Flip 7 has a similar camera setup to the Flip 6, with a 50MP wide lens and 12MP Ultra Wide. The selfie remains unchanged at 10MP. The Flip 7 will offer 256GB and 512GB storage options, and will launch in three colors: Jetblack, Blue Shadow, and Coralred.
You can pre-order the Galaxy Z Flip 7 starting today, and the phone will ship on July 25th.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Series
In addition to the foldables, Samsung also unveiled new watches with the Galaxy Watch 8 series. This year, Samsung brought back the "Classic" moniker for the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. And there's good news for physical rotating bezel fans like myself: The Watch 8 Classic has one, meaning you'll be able to easily navigate the OS without blocking the touchscreen.
The Watch 8 Classic comes in one size, 46mm, with a 1.47-inch display. The Galaxy Watch 8 will be offered in two sizes, a 40mm model with a 1.31-inch screen and a 44mm model with a 1.47-inch screen.
Powering the Galaxy Watch 8 series is the Exynos W1000 chip with 2GB of RAM. That chip will be responsible for running Wear OS with Samsung's new One UI 8 skin on top. The Galaxy Watch 8 40mm has a 325 mAh battery, while the 44mm Watch 8 has a 435 mAh, and the Watch 8 Classic comes with a 445 mAh battery. The Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic will be available in black and silver color options.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Watch 8 series start today and will ship on July 25th.
